The 5 Biggest Grocery Chains in Texas

More Grocery Chains in Texas to Watch

Aldi had 126 Texas stores in 2023, according to Supermarket News. In 2022 alone, nearly 400,000 Texans in Dallas and Houston shopped there for the first time. Nationally, Aldi plans to open more than 180 stores in 2026, reaching nearly 2,800, as Connect CRE reported.

Grocery Chains in Texas by City

The mix of grocery chains in Texas changes a lot from one metro to the next:

Competition is heating up in Dallas-Fort Worth, as Supermarket News noted in 2025. For example, H-E-B opened four stores there in 2023, including Frisco and Plano. Then it reached Fort Worth in April 2024. Meanwhile, Kroger opened new Marketplace stores in Plano and Fort Worth in 2025. As a result, North Texas shoppers now have more large grocers to choose from. Similarly, Partners Real Estate lists H-E-B stores planned for Euless, Forney, Murphy, and Dallas through 2026.

Online Grocery and Delivery in Texas

Most large grocery chains in Texas now offer pickup and delivery, but each one does it differently:

  • H-E-B: it runs its own curbside pickup and home delivery. It also owns Favor, which it bought in 2018, for on-demand runs. In April 2020, H-E-B said Favor’s Express Delivery covered every H-E-B, Central Market, and Joe V’s store in Texas.
  • Walmart: nationally, nearly 37% of its store-fulfilled orders arrived in under three hours in mid-2026.
  • Kroger: it made Instacart its main delivery provider in November 2025, while widening its DoorDash deal.
  • Costco: its Same-Day delivery runs on Instacart, and Costco says those prices are higher than in its warehouses.

However, online systems can fail. In July 2026, a system issue paused H-E-B’s online orders and delivery across Texas. So brands that track online prices also need to track when stores go offline.

What Data Can You Collect From Grocery Chains in Texas?

Grocery chains in Texas publish plenty of public data online, often store by store:

  • Store locations: addresses, hours, and coordinates, so you can map each chain’s footprint.
  • Prices: shelf prices, sale prices, and unit prices, because they can differ from store to store.
  • Weekly deals and coupons: digital coupons and weekly ads, as well as their start and end dates.
  • Stock status: in stock or out of stock for each product at each store.
  • Delivery options: pickup and delivery availability, fees, and time slots.
  • Store brands: private label products, so you can compare them with national brands.

Who Uses Texas Grocery Data?

  1. Consumer goods brands: first, they check shelf prices and stock at H-E-B, Kroger, and Walmart in each city.
  2. Retailers: next, they benchmark prices before they open in new suburbs.
  3. Real estate teams: they map store openings to find gaps, for instance in fast-growing North Texas.
  4. Analysts and investors: finally, they track prices and expansion to judge each chain.
